Home | Fuel Supply
Fuel supply encompasses the seamless distribution and provision of diverse fuels, including gasoline, diesel, natural gas, and more, to fulfill the energy requirements of industries, transportation, and households. This intricate process involves the entire supply chain, spanning extraction or production to transportation, storage, and the final delivery to end-users.
A plane can be refuelled with a maximum of 800 liters of fuel per minute. The process is carried out either by a truck refueller or at a fuelling station by means of a dispenser. While truck refuellers (such as bowser trucks) are loaded with the jet fuel for fuelling, which they obtain from on-site airport tank terminals, a dispenser is a vehicle that pumps the required amount of fuel into the aircraft from the fuelling station’s pipeline connection via a hose.
Jet fuel is a refined type of kerosene used to power jet engines. Aviation fuel can refer to both aviation-grade petrol (AVGAS) commonly used in smaller aircraft, as well as being a catch-all term for all aircraft fuels.
These fuels are much purer than the kerosene and gasoline used for applications such as cars and have different compositions that afford them lower freezing points and varying octane ratings. Their additives also differ, with static dissipaters and gum inhibitors commonly added to aid safety and performance.
Jet and aviation fuels are flammable when vaporised and have freezing points between -40˚C and -58˚C. Due to such low operating temperatures, each must be kept free of water to reduce the risk of frozen water blocking the fuel inlet pipes of aircraft.
